If you ever get to know me as a person then you will know how vintage and old fashioned I am. This is actually my first college Painting 201 class oil painting. Also this is like my first oil painting like ever. I kind of did a mixed media with collage. This piece is basically about how I overcame insecurities and how I saw myself. The pages were really burnt in a not so great time in my life. At the time I was angry because my parents did not want me to go to college and I felt so misunderstood. My mom had a history of reading my journals and I was already paranoid so instead of just balling the pages up I burned them because they too were also painful. Then I took a few pages out of my FancyMouse diary that were mirrors, and I wrote inside them positive, because around that time I was still struggling with body image issues. It all ties in to show a very intimate, and deep painting. A diary or a journal is very precious and personal, and so to let someone read it means you really trust them or are careless. Like you can tell a lot about a person from their journal or diary. I think that someone who still writes in script in 2015 is a very vintage person. It is almost like the viewer can barely tell which or what time period this piece is from. I feel like I let my viewer into my mind, and somehow they can really relate to me on a personal level now. Maybe they too will create a diary or journal.

Changes to Look Forward to
How to feel pretty even when you don't feel like you are?
Okay so today was one of those days that caught me off guard. My face is clearing up, but I still have blemishes. My shoes are not new as you can clearly see, but my outfit is new and kind of hippie chic (from J.C Penny). I think today I just want to talk about how to feel beautiful/pretty even when you don't feel like it. I did not really feel like this was a fashion blogger worth look, not because of my outfit, but because I felt like...like a young woman. I am bloated and my face is all broken out, but I think that is the beauty of this photo. That I do not look perfect and I do not look photoshopped. I just look like me. Not that there is anything wrong with filters or photoshop. I just felt like my fashion blog needed something more me and more genuine.
Every successful fashion blogger is either pretty wealthy or has a great sponsor, takes pictures in the big cities, and probably gets invited to New York and Milan fashion week every year. All of those things are great and someday I hope that is me, but right now I just want to stop keeping up with the trends, checking my followers, and just be real for a moment. I may not be the most popular person on the internet, but I do care about my readers (the little ones I have). I care about my city and I care about so many other things that maybe blowing up is not all that right now. I say all of this because there are going to be changes to FancyMouse, my darlings! I do not know when, but I want my readers to become more interactive. Like personal testimonies and videos, some of my friends will be taking fashion pictures, and open discussions. I do not want my blog to just be about me If my mission is to empower young women and help strengthen their self-esteem then it clearly should not be about me. I want women of all different colors, shapes, and sizes. There are going to become changes to this blog and I mean big changes! Pretty soon my blog will not be about me, but my readers and I look forward to that!
So my words of encouragement are as always Psalms 139:13-15, but also don't try to be someone you are not. It is so easy to get caught up in how the world views us, or it is so easy to compare ourselves to someone else, but we need to know that each little thing that makes us is what makes us stand out. I also know that when no one is around it is very easy to just say, "oh, I am not going to compare myself to anyone else and I am completely fine with who I am," but honestly that is just when no one is around. I feel that as young women we have a tendency to compare ourselves with out knowing it and I think the best thing we can do is accept what we have no matter what. We have to know our creator and what makes us beautiful.

NYFW DAY 2
Okay so today is day two of my mini blog Fashion Week. I promise someday I will be there and earn my invite! As for now I am just a young Chicagoan, Christian young women trying to make it in life. This is one of my fall looks. I was so thirsty to wear my favorite new fall booties, I ordered from Romwe and my high waisted jeans. My shirt and purse came from Choies. Well enough about me let's get into my new blog feature advice for the day when it comes to creating your own Fashion Week outfit:
- First do not listen to others
- This is just a general piece of advice because no matter what you cannot really listen to others. If I had listened to everyone who tried to bring me down I probably would not have a blog and would be majoring in something I am not happy about.
- Know your fall fashion ahead of time!
- This is one of the things that held me down before I even created a blog. I thought that I would shop for fall fashion when fall came and summer fashion when it came. That is a NO NO! Do not do that at all because fashion week showcases spring and fall fashions. Shop for fall fashion in the summer months which is what I did this year, and now I almost have my whole fall wardrobe ready. Then when January and February comes I will need to start working on my spring wardrobe.
- Check your local thrift store before you shop anywhere else:
- I love The Economy shop in Oak Park, IL a place that I have mentioned multiple times before. I do not know if you guys can see them or not, but I got some real vintage 80s earrings from The Economy Shop and they are the round earrings. I loved added them because I wanted to add like a little 80s flavor to the outfit, which is kind of big in Fashion Week this year the 80s vibe a little bit.
- Stay up to date with Fashion Week
- Stay in the know when it comes to fashion. Even though, fashion is not really innovative and just repeats itself it does come back rather modern, so make sure you know when you are watching Snapchat's NYFW story pay attention to what designers are talking about because if you are really focused on looking Fashion Weekified then do not just look take mental notes. Also, watch it every day do not stop looking one day then be done NO go back and analyze. That's the point of watching NYFW.
- Step out in confidence
- There will be people that think you are gorgeous and have such nice style. Then there will be people that are secret haters or known haters that will ask why are so dressed up like they can't just give you a compliment. Look over them and keep it moving because it's not your fault if they don't like your outfit do you boo!

My NYFW Outfit
New York Fashion week is going on and I am a little upset that I cannot be there. Still, I thought it would be pretty cool to create my own Fashion week outfit right at home. I hope that you guys are inspired to make your own Fashion week outfits. Actually, when my club starts I will be starting my own Fashion week in the spring. I cannot wait because I feel like this will be exactly what Chicago needs. I will always wonder why Chicago does not have a Fashion Week? Maybe it is because not many people are interested in fashion here, but I disagree because I believe that there a lot of people that are interested in fashion. Anyways, this outfit gives off an 80s-90s feel to me. I went to The Economy shop for my jacket/shirt and my cropped sweater. My pants and heels came from Romwe! I love both stores and they both have very reasonable prices.
Anyways, I want to explain more about The Economy Shop and thrift stores in general. Basically, The Economy Shop is located in Oak Park, IL and it has a ton of cute vintage outfits. The best thing about it to me is that most of the profits goes to local Oak Park shelters, and animal hospitals. I think that is more credible than just saying that it goes to charity. Most people want to know exactly where their money is going to. I think most of you guys should check it out along with Romwe because they are my two most favorite stores and they are both extremely reasonable! Links:

Style Diary: Retro Church Look
I am so late with this post. It is Wednesday and that means I took this bad boy three days ago. My skirt is so old that in my closet it is vintage I just started back wearing this skirt. So if you want to know wear yo can buy this skirt then I probably cannot tell you. My shirt is easy it is from Forever 21 and it was on sale. This Sunday I was going for a midi-vintage type outfit. A lot of times I hate dressing for church because you never know if something is too short and if it is beware of the mean looks. Right now, in my life I am just trying to dress modestly at church but cute for real! So many times I hear my parents or people at church say you can dress modest at church and still look cute and when you think you are dressing modestly and get punished for it it gets annoying. Often times we hear that we can still dress modestly and cute, but I know a lot of young women are wondering how? The same thing I was wondering at first. So I am that person that is going to teach you that how? Anyone can tell you something but if they never show you then how will you know. Throughout, my blog I will be focusing on beauty, modesty, and self-image. I will give tons of ways you can still be gorgeous my FancyMouse darling, but still being modest at the same time. Seriously, though it's time for people to stop saying it and show it!

How it All Started: The Baby Stage of FancyMouse
So the summer of 2014 I knew that I was going to college and I would have enough resources to start a fashion blog. I was working at Gallery 37 the Painting on Canvas program and that was my last summer. I wanted a new journal that screamed ME. I wanted something that said, I love fashion, art, and business. I know it sounds like a lot for one object to scream. As usual, during break I would go window shopping on State street, because who doesn't love spending money? Then it hits me, instead of going to Target I can go get a journal from Blick. They might be more expensive but I love journals so whatever. I went into Blick and history was made. It was right there, screaming ME, lol so it wasn't actually screaming Makayla, but I loved the fabric. I loved the illustrations in the inside. I loved that it described me as a fashionista. and it was a work of art within itself. It was then that I came up with FancyMouse. The name has a simple meaning: Fancy is because I love expensive little intimate things, and mouse came from my love for Minnie Mouse and me being petite. When I die lol (hopefully not for a long time!) I will probably have like a whole collection of diaries and journals that are my little pieces of art work. My advice for today is no matter what dream you have keep on pursuing it and pushing through because in the long run your dream will pay off.

"It Was All a Dream": Happy Birthday FancyMouse
Hello, my FancyMouse darlings today is like the Anniversary/Birthday for FancyMouse. Yep, a year ago well actually more than a year ago I dreamed about becoming a Fashion Marketer and creating a blog based around Jesus Christ and fashion. I started my fashion journal and it blew up. Well, it's blowing up...it really did start our as a dream because I felt like God was dealing with me to speak to women and girls that they are worthy and worth it (I am not talking about the song!). I want every girl to feel like me, to know that you are a Queen that your Father created the whole earth! I really thank God for all my recent readers, because people really do not know the struggle of creating a fashion blog. Like my momma always says, "Girl, why are you tryna take pictures and be cute?" I'm like "Mommy that is what Instagram is for this has actual meaning to my career." My mom is pretty funny and truthful so yeah.
I really thank God for the determination that He has given me. If I never get that house, that car, or be a superstar (quoting the Walls Group) then I will be satisfied with God. Seriously, if people never know my name, or my gifts never bring me fame I won't care. I won't care because I know who I am doing this for not me or not for me to be prideful and turn my nose up at others. If my blog never becomes like world wide famous so be it because I love what I do. Still, it would be better to have a sponsor. At the end of the day, I will be satisfied with Jesus. Also, I love The Walls Group they are a great contemporary gospel group to listen to. FancyMouse deserves to be celebrated because I have been working so hard to encourage women and girls to be whoever you want to be, and don't forget about who you belong to.
Fashion Blogging has become so competitive which is what makes it more complex than just taking pictures. There is a business that goes behind it, which is why I am majoring in Business Marketing and Management. Still, I really love my FancyMouse darlings because all of you guys make this possible. All I do is take a few classes and hope people like my content. God is really moving and it feels good. Do not forget to look up The Walls Group! Happy Birthday FancyMouse, my hardwork is going to pay off sooner or later.
