| From my personal instagram account @makayla_cole24 Well you guys know I am a Christian and I am unashamed never afraid to write in Jesus' name on here. I also paint and do other artsy stuff. Well, my mom bought me this journaling bible about two months ago and I have not really been using it until now, but I love it. I mean, as an artist, writer, and reader I can combine all three. It also makes what I read in my bible stick with me. This bible is great for artsy or writing people. I actually bought it from illustratedfaith.com. It is such a great store they have all types of personal bibles, journaling bible kits, and even materials you can use to decorate your bible. I absolutely love it! Anyways, I wanted to give you guys a few ideas you Declare Your Faith: Use this opportunity to become a stronger Christian or even motivation to read your word. Sometimes when we are just reading we do not retain enough, but when you illustrate your faith it becomes alive and more meaningful. Write Your Favorite Line From that Passage: A lot of times people put in all caps what stood out to them. Maybe you can do that as well and also use that as a meditation method. That way you can focus on trying to remember that passage. WRITE! It isn't called a journaling bible for no reason write down what stands out to you. Write a letter to God or reflect on how that scripture made you feel. Or even write down a quick prayer for the day. Add Pictures This bible since this bible is so spacey why not make it a scrapbook as well? Maybe put in so photos of your family as a constant reminder of who to pray for or. Maybe even as a photo journey of what God has brought you through! The possibilities are endless just have fun and be creative. But also love God and show Him that! Art: Why You Shouldn't Care if Some People Do Not Get Your Art
I am an artist with many mediums. I paint, draw, sing, dance (even though I am not great at it), write/journal, and blog. Those are the things I consider art. Anything where I am creating something from scratch, but for right now I am going to focus on the general art. Which is painting, drawing, etc. Lately, I have been making great out of the box art. That is my style. I love painting on clothes, because it makes me feel like an individual. My mother raised me to be be different and not be a follower, but a leader. So whatever I do I make sure I make it me. I make everything scream Makayla.
As an artist and fashionista I have to have a voice. My outlets give me a voice that I would not have if I was not a jack of all trades. Art is something that society has been trying to figure out for many years. We still have the questions: who is to say what art is? What defines art? Who makes art art? We all wonder these questions. We all have our own opinions and views when it comes to art. A lot of artists do things that the regular human mind just does not get. Not saying that they are dumb or slow it's just art is deeper than just an image. People think that when they see art they are just supposed to get art. People even pretend to understand art like Monet said. There's really no use to pretending you either get it or you don't. When people think of art they are thinking of a painting, or a realist drawing. When in reality, there are so many more mediums and wider canvases than just a regular canvas.
My art is whatever I want it to be just like life is. Life is what you make it. Art is also that for me. Art is what you want it to be, so if people cannot understand your concept then move on, because it is not for people to understand. I have a bad habit of asking people about their opinion on my hair, face, photos, and art. I guess it stems from my own insecurities and I feel the need to validate myself based on other's opinions. Yet, I am here today to say that I no longer need or want to need people's validation on my art or anything else. I also think that you or whoever is reading this should not want that either.
Some people will always be negative and try to bring you down as a young artist. My mother always tells me that I cannot listen to everyone. I am starting to see that is very true. Some people are just jealous or haters, because they cannot do what you can do. Do not feed into people's negativity. Treat people with kindness no matter how they treat you. Some people think that they need to understand art. When in all actuality you do not have to do anything. Art just needs to be appreciated, loved, and admired. Haters won't go away; there will always be people that do not like you. As for the people that try too hard to understand art; please understand it to the best of your ability. So the next time you struggle with understanding art maybe just try to see it through the artist's eyes. The next time someone tries to bring you down about your art smile, because they obviously see something great in you that you do not see yourself.

Interior Design: DIY Your Own Fashion Cardboard Piece
Hey guys! I am going to write a little snippet on how I DIY-ed my own cardboard fashion illustration piece for my room. So since December I have been remodeling my bedroom so I told myself that I wanted this to be the last time I ever change my room until I get married (like seriously)! I mean originally I was going for the victorian-romantic-country style bedroom. So hopefully, when I show the rest of my room it will look like the style I was going for. One thing I can say is that I have absolutely fell in love with the Shabby Chic brand like for real. The linen covers are of such good quality. But anyways, let's get to this DIY piece.
Steps to DIY your own Fashion Illustration:
1. Get either a used or new piece of cardboard.
My papa was setting up my sister's new dresser from Ikea and did not use the box so I kept it.
2. Gesso it or apply white paint
I applied a little Gesso because I was running out of paint and also I wanted to create that impressionist look and show some of the cardboard.
3. SKETCH IT OUT!
Okay you are almost there to start the real painting. Also at this step add old sheets on the floor if you have wood floors like mine or carpet.
4. BEGIN PAINTING!
Okay your attention span did not run out on me congratulations (Lol)! Still, this is where you can start painting and hopefully finish. Then you can set it up. I put mine in a little spot on my wall since my room is fairly small. Enjoy painting and I hope you guys feel inspired to paint.

Dese Chanel Bags is a Bad Habit:Beginner Fashion Illustrations
Fashion Illustrations have always been something that I was interested in but too shy to dive into. When I first started out painting I was in awe of Monet's work. I mean Claude Monet IS my favorite artist. I have a loose painting hand and the impressionist style fit that. I was younger around the time I first started out, and I was too scared to tell my art teacher that I absolutely loved fashion. So now as a Sophomore in college I have finally started to fashion illustrate. In a way fashion has helped me become way more confident than I was in the beginning. I still have a ways to go but I am growing.
Most people sell their fashion illustrations, like all art pieces, or they work for fashion companies that need their art for clothes or advertising purposes. Marketing is also a key factor into selling fashion illustrations so that they can be made known. A lot of hard work on and off my computer or cell phone goes into my blog and my social media platform. As a full time student and an aspiring full time fashion blogger there is a lot of stress that goes into it all. I spend at least an hour and 30 minutes on one painting. Then I have to post it on Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. That way I can increase my followers and hopefully get some recognition from other fashionistas. The goal of my fashion illustrations are not to make money but to grow as an artist. I just started out with this and I still have more to learn. Right now for me the challenging part are the faces on my fashion illustrations. I paint a lot and have painted many faces, but for some reason I get nervous when it comes to drawing smaller faces. Hopefully, by next year I will be doing better at drawing faces.
Some people are wondering if fashion illustrators will replace fashion bloggers. I do not think fashion illustrators can replace fashion bloggers, but I do think that they can work together. The process for fashion blogging and illustrating are very similar. I think fashion bloggers and illustrators both get the same benefits when it comes to the fashion world. I think they will both continue to coexist. In a way, people could do what I am doing have a fashion blog and illustrate. It is a ton of work, but you will always make time for something that you love.

Emerging Fashion Illustrator #artstyleblogger
I do not want to be another fashion or lifestyle blogger. I have seen so many that at this point it is not even funny. I am even starting to think maybe I should just give this up. Then my inner stronger me whispers do not give up on your dreams. If someone really knows me then they know that I am not competitive and I just cannot put up with crazy competitive people. I know that fashion is competitive but it is starting to seem overwhelmingly competitive because all I want is to do what I love and honestly get paid for it. My ultimate goals is just to have my voice heard. I just want to stand out from other Fashion Bloggers by sharing more then just my love for God and fashion. Although, I eventually want to get paid this is not some get rich quick scheme for me. I want to be the young woman that every woman and girl can relate to. I love lifestyle blogs but the thing that turns me off about them is that they are not relatable. Basically, I am just looking at professional pictures that exhibit every luxurious thing that happens in someone's life. I am not bashing lifestyle bloggers because if they have the money they have every right to shop and travel. So yea, even though you guys have already been seeing a lot of art on my blog expect to start seeing Fashion Illustrations. Please believe me when I say I am stepping out of my comfort zone. I have never really done fashion illustrations.

You Know Who You Are: Texture Discovery
You Know Who You Are
This piece really came from a place of unrequited love. I have been feeling that for a while now and I was just trying to be open. This piece is so delicate to me because many people do not have the power to combine what they write in their diary or journal then showcase it to the world. In some sense this was a way for me to reveal my true self to just lie there naked to the world to see all the hurt I have been feeling that no one knows about except for God. I used a wide variety of colors because I wanted to show how many emotions I have been feeling in the inside. The hair extensions show another aspect of my journal and life as a young African American woman. The words are actually from a poem that I wrote about how I was feeling to this person. Then I tie it all in with God. The fact that I love this person who doesn’t want me to love them so much it hurts. I know God still loves me and I am not trying to make this person love me. Still, I feel bad that this person will never love me because they think no one should love them. Which draws me even closer to them. I have a huge heart no matter how many times you hurt me I will still try to love you like crazy. Yet, creating this piece helped me to realize that I can love him all I want but it has to be God’s love that helps him. My love is nothing compared to God’s and he loves this guy way more than I do. So it is best that I just place it in God’s hands. It is still a challenge for me to erase all of our memories together and give him to God, because I have built a strong love for him. I really thought deeply while making this piece, and part of it is because I put my diary in it. When you put something so precious and so sacred to you in a piece you really become open like a book for the world to see.

Art 201: Master Painting Assignment Mickalene Thomas
Okay, so this painting took me a really long time because I was just drawing/ painting off of Mickalene Thomas' reference. So it doesn't look exactly like her but I have good news! Apparently, she liked it! I almost died this morning seeing that on Instagram she liked my Master Painting of it! I could not and still cannot believe that she did. When hers is so much better, but to God be the glory! Also, look up Mickalene Thomas and you can also go to her website she is amazing! mickalenethomas.com
