Internship Fierce Outfit Ideas for a Five Day Work Week

Any Godly, Plus-sized, petite, tall, short, or tiny fashionista knows what it is like when applying for internships! It can be stressful and scary, because what if you don't like your dream job? Last year, I applied to like a bajillion jobs and internships and not once got accepted. So here is my quick testimony then back to this article! So this summer I decided to pray, fast, and seek God's face ( I am an Unashamed Christian). I decided to declare my faith after I applied to this internship and I waited and one day they called and said I got it! It was truly a blessing and that feels great, but as a fashion lover I began to think about what shall I wear? We all know that feeling of intense joy (because now you get to go shopping) or fear because you probably don't have money for a new wardrobe. Well, today I am going to be your fashion fairy Godmother and tell you to put that waller down because here are some really cool outfit ideas that you can try on your own!

Internship Look: Colorful Monday

Photo from my Polyvore account @colemakayla

A lot of people despise Monday (I am sort of in the middle), so what better way to say "I am ready to come and slay this week", better than wearing bold yet professional colors? You want to come in there like you own it. The boyfriend blazer helps give it the professional, yet fashionable look. While the colors on the dress are bold enough to brighten your day, but not over the top.

Internship Look: Tuesday Intense Presentation Slayage

Internships and the business world requires some sort of presentation to show off what you have learned. So go in there with a bold chunky necklace (stay small on the earrings for balance), and a nice sleek dress that shows you came for business and not to play.

Internship Look: Sassy Accessorized Hump Day

It's hump day and it's kinda midweek (kinda not). Why not surprise that coworker who thought you'd give up looking super fashionable by Tuesday a run for his or her money? Show them that your inner fashionista is here to stay til the end. Try using a pop of color like the mustard colored crop shirt, and wearing some chic shades paired with a stunning bag to your internship. I mean, it is hump day afterall.

Internship Look: Thursday Chic-ness

Okay it's finally Thursday a day before Friyay! Try a bold tweed blazer of bold blazer paired with all black. You can go heavy on the earrings here because there is no necklace. Aim for a minimalistic look. Just a stylish bag, rad pumps, and some chunky earrings. So maybe not that minimalistic, but you get my point.

Internship Look Friday: From Desk to Night Out

Who has time to get off work and then go home and change? Um... no one! That's why I am going to make sure you arrive to the ball (or er um... night spent dancing with your squad) on time. Try a business casual dress, like the one above, pair it with a sleek blazer (to make sure you are still work savvy), and pair it with a cute clutch. Then bippity boppity boo there you are meeting squad and wondering what you would have done if it was not for FancyMouse Mag this week?

My Response to BCB's: Is The Face of Black Feminism Light Skinned and Biracial?

NOT MY PHOTO CREDIT: Teen Vogue, Ebony, Porter Magazine

The best thing about college and even going to a PWI is -- the late night conversations with my fellow Black friend and roommate. All year we talked about things like this. We've both wondered when girls like Zendaya and Amandla were going to publicly acknowledge that they have color privilege? I love that Beyond Classically Beautiful finally chose to speak out about this. A lot of times as darker skinned African American women we are seen as 'angry' when speaking out against the injustices we see as Black women. I understand that both young women are great actresses' and just like the article states in the Huffington Post they are reminded about their Blackness in Hollywood regardless of privilege. They both do speak out and use their social media platforms to share how they feel about being a Black woman. A lot of people would say that we as a group should be happy that their voices are being heard, but why? Are their voices really being heard or are they just receiving privilege for the way the look? I love both of them and I am a fan of both young women. Still what about the young women like my roommate and I, who share posts about the daily injustices that face Black women/girls?

There are many Black women that have been fighting for the same thing for a while. In Hollywood there aren't many darker skinned Black women that take on a lot of lead roles. In Hollywood there is still colorism and racial prejudice among stars. Mainly, Black women like Coleman or Stenberg get privilege for their skin color. I personally feel like since the world knows this then why are we still putting women of lighter skin tones on a pedestal and ignoring darker skinned women? Zendaya has faced challenges and she loves being biracial and I can respect that because that is who she is, Last year in 2015 people of twitter even came at her and her identity, but she chose to educate them on who she was and how her family educated her on both sides. Amandla talks about being a "feminist since birth" and how she at first tried to run away from her Blackness to now she has decided to accept it. Colorism is a real issue and we need to include it into our discussions on how to build up Black Women, because we aren't just facing dehumanizing problems from people outside our race.

No I am not trying to pit women against each other, but what I am saying is that we should acknowledge ALL skin colors. Huffington Post Black Voices even talks about darker skinned Black women that have started the Black Lives Matter movement but rarely get recognition. Dark is associated with ugly, and masculine. Lighter skin is associated with femininity and beauty. So it's hard being a Black woman or even Afro Latina. Hispanic women also face this issue of colorism. In her video, "Dear Latinas, Let's Check Our Privilege", Kat Lazo explains colorism and privilege in the Hispanic community specifically Latinas. She uses herself as a prime example of someone who actually benefits from Light skin privilege or colorism. She says that because of her lighter skin people often assume she is white. I love the real life examples she uses about her friend and her both dating an African American guy, but her teacher tells her "she can do better". There is power when a woman of lighter skin complexion speaks out against colorism, because she is also paving the way for darker skinned women. This will ultimately help them be accepted by society.

So when they ask the question, "Is The Face of Black Feminism Light Skinned and Biracial?", my response can only be yes. I know that those two girls have worked hard at what they do, but there are other women as well. Other Black women with a different shade of Black. I agree with the thought of why can't all of us of different shades participate in this movement? There are so many other stars facing the same injustices, some may have been worse. There is Keke Palmer, China Anne McClaine, Cymphonique Miller, Lupita N'yongo, and many more young Black women. If we show more Black women of different shades then the world will be more accepting, but as long as young Black men glorify lighter skinned women, and the media then so will society. Here is also a video link that I think goes eve deeper to explain this issue: Colorism Philogynoir. I still think the important thing to remember is that we are all one under God. God created us all equal and all out of His image. In Psalms 139 (my favorite scripture) God talks about knitting us together in our mother's wombs. So many times we get so caught up in talking about the intersectionality between Race, Gender, Sexual orientation, and other worldly things that we forget about Religion and more specifically Christianity. Have we really fallen off with God? In the 60's and even during slavery we called out to Him and God brought us out of our misery. We forget that it does not matter about the world's perception of us, but what matters is how God, our creator views us. We can rise up again and for equality but I think they only that can be done is through God Himself. Thank you and share how you have dealt with issues like colorism no matter what Race or ethnic background you have come from! And if you have not dealt with colorism issues comment on how you feel about this (please no negative language!) and do not forget to subscribe and become a follower on FancyMouse Mag!

DIY ALERT: How to Retweak and Reuse Old Jewelry Pieces

Hey FancyMousketeers, lovely Thursday isn't it? Jewelry: we all love it (okay, not all but you get the gist of it...). Well, most of us do and if you're like a super fashion-fanatic-Breakfast at Tiffany's obsessed gal like me, then you understand how sometimes jewelry breaks your pockets way more than clothes. I mean, we all have an inner Holly Golightly I guess some just need to dig a little deeper. Still, are you tired of constantly going to (insert the place you go to get your jewelry), and tired of fantasizing about diamonds and pearls from Tiffany & Co.'s? Well, I may not have someone in Sing-Sing like Holly G, but I can certainly help make jewelry feel new again! Especially, for broke college fashionistas like me that don't have a lot of spending money.

First, off I want to apologize for not including pictures of the materials needed for this DIY project (this was kind of a creative spark thing!). So we all have broken necklaces, rusted jewelry, and some furry things lying around (well at least I do!). Well, I was thinking hey why not remake a broken necklace into some dazzling earrings and a rusted necklace into a new modern faux fur necklace.

Here are the things you may need and some suggestions:
-An old or thrift store bought necklace
-Some faux fur; I got mine from an old Love Pink jacket I bought, or you can go to the thrift store and find some faux fur as well
-Super glue like the real stuff I use Loc-Tite
-Old mini studs like really small

Okay this project is super easy like for real. Still, it's really fluid so you can use your own artistic vibes and add your own style!

Here are both of my new and improved earrings:

These were originally a part of a necklace I bought from Forever 21 about two or one and a half years ago. What I did was use flat mini stud earrings (tiny earrings). Stuck them in the inside or on the back of the torn of necklace piece, and viola! I had two new huge stud earrings. Do you think Holly Golightly would approve? (Hope so!)

These are technically new/cheap little things. To me they went from cheap to chic. All I did was buy some five dollar heart studs from a local beauty supply store and add a little faux fur to them. I mean, I have not really seen that many people with faux fur on their earrings. So this could be a way you could take a bold stance at being different. It's really simple all you have to do is buy some inexpensive earrings and add a little faux fur.

Got a rusted necklace? No Problem!

Oh dear, a rusted/discolored necklace is a tragedy (in my best Holly Golightly voice imitation). What should we do instead of throwing it out? Add some faux fur! First, you take the Loc-Tite super glue (just as you would in all other projects) and smear it onto the part of the necklace you want the fur to go onto and then you just grab the faux fur and press down hardly onto the desired spot until you think it is secured. Well there you have it FancyMouseketeers, there's a new way to still rock your favorite jewelry pieces even when they get old. No jewelry funds because of college and bills? No problem! Just pull out the super glue or glue gun and recycle old pieces.

How You Can Transform Your Chill Day Look Into a Cool Fashionista Street Style Combo

Hey wassup it's been a while...(cue the "Like I Would" by Zayn), but seriously hi FancyMouseketeers (yes to me it's one word!) So today I am going to touch on street style, dressing up, and being chill. Well, not all in one, but you know what I mean. Street Style is really popular right now and some say (and I agree) that it was founded on the streets of New York. Today, all I had to do was literally go to this place on Chicago ave. and take a drug test... BUT I was feeling fashion-y today (sorry for the made up words!) Yet, I did not want to go all out. And for someone who loves the Oscar Wilde quote "You are never overeducated or overdressed..." that usually would not have scared me, but I wanted to go for something that said, "yes I am a fashionista, but I do know how to tone it down some days..." (sounds like a lot huh? Yeah I know...). Everyone loves street style and in some ways it is very chill but I still wanted to be comfy. I don't know why I wanted to be so comfy, but we all have those days when we really don't feel like wearing spanx or waist trainers (free that fluffiness!). So here is how I combined the two today:

First off, for people like me who love and embrace their fluffy tummies on some days (like I did today) and despise them the next (waist training like Kim K right?) I chose a flowy graphic Minnie Mouse shirt (she's the Fanciest Mouse). I would say a loose graphic tee is perfect for a daytime look anyways because you're just being you and enjoying the chilly 50 degree Chicago weather. Also, because if you're going for a laid back look then there's no need for a bustier or peplum top at 3 pm. Next, my jeans are not really jeans. They're really super soft stretchy material jeggings. I know that seems like so last year ago, and I would love to be rocking so cool form fitting mom jeans, but for a laid back look you want something that doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Lastly, I chose some flats. I mean, I could have chosen some superb Manolo heels (yeah right, in my dreams lol...), but I chose flats. If you look close enough you can also see that I played with patterns just a tad bit. My jeans were patterned and my flats were cheetah print, and yet they do not clash at all. I love jewelry so imagine how hard it was for me to just wear earrings! A good pair of chunky earrings and a classic shoulder bag is the best laid back street style-y (what's up with the "-y" I don't know) way to go trust me. It makes you feel like you're being daring, but not so daring that it overwhelms your look. Well, there you have it FancyMouseketeer, and even if you're just reading this you are now a FancyMouseketeer. And just for fun here is my outfit in a Polaroid pic (sorry it's dim!):

New Illustrated Faith Bible and the Different Ways You Can Use It

From my personal instagram account @makayla_cole24

Well you guys know I am a Christian and I am unashamed never afraid to write in Jesus' name on here. I also paint and do other artsy stuff. Well, my mom bought me this journaling bible about two months ago and I have not really been using it until now, but I love it. I mean, as an artist, writer, and reader I can combine all three. It also makes what I read in my bible stick with me. This bible is great for artsy or writing people. I actually bought it from illustratedfaith.com.  It is such a great store they have all types of personal bibles, journaling bible kits, and even materials you can use to decorate your bible. I absolutely love it! Anyways, I wanted to give you guys a few ideas you

Declare Your Faith:
Use this opportunity to become a stronger Christian or even motivation to read your word. Sometimes when we are just reading we do not retain enough, but when you illustrate your faith it becomes alive and more meaningful.

Write Your Favorite Line From that Passage:
A lot of times people put in all caps what stood out to them. Maybe you can do that as well and also use that as a meditation method. That way you can focus on trying to remember that passage.

WRITE!
It isn't called a journaling bible for no reason write down what stands out to you. Write a letter to God or reflect on how that scripture made you feel. Or even write down a quick prayer for the day.

Add Pictures
This bible since this bible is so spacey why not make it a scrapbook as well? Maybe put in so photos of your family as a constant reminder of who to pray for or. Maybe even as a photo journey of what God has brought you through! The possibilities are endless just have fun and be creative. But also love God and show Him that!

Remember: Always Color in Your Bible!

When Will America Accept All Body Types?

Yesterday, a writer from Marie Claire wrote an article named "9 Things Selena Gomez Did to Get the Body She Has Now", and I am not trying to shame them or anything. I know that she was just writing a story, and I do not want it to seem like I am attacking Marie Claire or the writer. The article was actually pretty good and explained how to slim down in a healthy way.  My purpose for this story is to understand why society, particularly America, is so obsessed about the ideal body image? I get that Selena Gomez was fat shamed last year and this year she decided to lose weight, but I think that's the problem for women in general. Why do we feel that because one person (or many people) say something about our weight we have to go lose weight. Selena Gomez is one of my favorite artist' and her curves are beautiful. I get it some people may want to tone up, including me myself, but we should not feel like we have to lose weight just because someone says something. That may or may not be the case for Selena, but I know for a lot of us non-famous people we feel like that's something that we have to do. When I saw her before and after pictures from Marie Claire I really didn't see a change at first, but then I saw that she slimmed down. Still, I really thought she was beautiful either way. I keep wondering when are people going to realize that? I know that the article gave great tips about being healthy. I know that she did not go on a diet and never weighed herself. I hear a lot of people who are very healthy and lost a ton of weight call curvy or overweight people lazy, because "if they can do it then the people who are overweight can as well". What if they feel beautiful already? What if they feel like no one else's opinion matters? There are so many plus sized and curvy bloggers who are beautiful, yet we are still stuck on what men like and being skinny.

For the last few years, the hourglass shape has been pretty popular. With stars like Nicki Minaj, JLO, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and more girls and women everywhere are being influenced by how they think their bodies should look. With tiny waists and huge bums. To be honest, it is unreal. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says, that butt implants went up 98 percent 2013 to 2014. Also that liposuction went up 5 percent and Newsy reports that the demand for lip implants has increased 48 percent since 2000 until 2015. I know that to a lot of people including men may just seem like numbers, but in reality it shows how it is very common for women in America to have low self esteem. It seems as though celebrities and the media are telling girls and young women that whatever they do not like about themselves they can just change it. That is the wrong message. Yes, dieting and exercising can be a healthy way of losing weight and changing yourself, but did we forget the negative effects of constantly dieting and exercising. Some people work out so much it becomes an obsession just to lose weight. That is what makes dieting unhealthy. Last year, there was the Kylie Jenner lip challenge, and a lot of girls were doing it. Since the lip challenge did not work that well, people started opting to just getting injections like Kylie did herself. One article from New York Daily News, talks about how teens from New York started getting temporary lip fillers because they were influenced by other celebrities and Kylie Jenner. The doctors believe that the girls were influenced by Jenner and one client even said "her lips are too thin and she just wants to be pretty.".  A lot of us forget that it is what is on the inside that counts. We also forget self acceptance because we are too caught up with what people are saying and what celebrities are doing.

It seems like America is never going to accept the different types of female bodies, but I believe that is when start somewhere like ignoring or endorsing fashion designers that support plus sized clothes then we have something. Social media is tough on girls' and young women believe me I've been there. I can still hear my mother's comments about my weight ringing in my ear. I would always take it to heart and it led me to making myself throw up, going on crazy diets, or working out obsessively. And not that my mother is a bad person, but when will this all stop? When will the fashion industry show even more varieties of plus sized women? When will all stores have nice looking plus sized clothing? We say we love BBW's and curvy women, but really we just love the idea of that. We love the tiny waist and big boobs and butt. What about women who are curvy all around? Yes, people can lose weight to fit into clothes, but why do we have to? I want all women to feel beautiful inside out. I want young girls and teenagers to feel great already. I do not want them to feel like if they have the money then plastic surgery is the answer, because it is not. America would look so different if we just accepted women for how God made their body image.

Style Tips: Four Big BRA-BLEMS and How to Fix Them

Bra-blems... we've all had them! And if we are being really honest I have never had a fit me in my entire life until I turned 20 (this year). I mean what girl or woman hasn't had problems with her bra. I am not the ideal size (whatever that is). I am actually quite busty ,and a lot of times it is hard for women like me to find a bra that fits or when we do they have ran out of our size. Every stylish outfit starts with great undergarments, which in this case are bras. How can we have great undergarments when we have size problems, bras riding up, slipping straps, straps digging in, quadboobs, side boobs, and cup gaping? This article is going to help combat those issues and even open your bra shopping horizons to a great store named ThirdLove

1. Bra-Blem: Bra Riding Up Your Back

Is your bra always riding up your back?

The problem is that the bra size is too big for you. The reason your bra might be doing this is because your breasts are probably pretty large and maybe even heavy. Which then causes your bra to ride up your back. Another reason could be because you might be wider at waist. Lastly, the curve of your spine makes it hard for the bra to stay in its place.

So how do you solve this?

By buying a smaller bra size! Yep, it's time to go to a store like Victoria's Secret or ThirdLove

2. Breast Tissue by armpits are bulging out

If you're like me you hate what I call underarm fat! So when your bra makes it even more visible when you have your clothes on it just makes you mad.

The main reason for this is that you are wearing the wrong bra style! So honestly, it is time to get a new one, because you don't want to mess a perfectly cute blouse or crop top with armpit fat being totally visible.

So how do you solve this?

Herroom talks about maybe looking for a bra with taller sides or for bustier women to even consider going up a cup size which will ultimately cover the extra breast tissue.

3. Underwire Bras-- "Oh Boy!"

Ok, I hate to admit it but I love underwire bras especially from Pink and/or Victoria's Secret. They hurt and poke me yet I still choose to wear them. I know for a fact that I am not the only woman who loves to wear them regardless of the pain. I mean, pretty hurts right? Um, no!

Underwire bras poking you means that you're probably short and petite. Still, that's not the only reason it could also be because you have a short torso or higher breasts. Which then causes the underwire to poke you in your armpit.

So how do we fix this Bra-blem?

Try buying a bra that doesn't cover your whole bra. Try something with shorter wires which doesn't hurt you as much.

4. Sagging Breasts

There is not a woman in the world that does not hate this bra-blem. I mean you go to a store and buy a bra that only makes your breasts look worse than before. Let's explore how to fix this problem when searching for the perfect bra.

Bra-blem Solution...

This means that your bra does not have a lot of support and/or the band size is too big. Or it could just mean that you have heavy breasts. Herroom talks about getting a bra with great support. This means buying a 3-section cup bra with support panels, a band all the way around the bottom of the bra, and with 3 or more hooks in the back.

As women of different shapes and sizes we need to learn more about what types of bras and clothes fit us. Yes, a lot of people desire the hourglass figure because that's what's trending. Still, in reality we all are unique and that's what makes us special as women. Also head over to ThirdLove to find the perfect bra for you.
